Referral Idea Starters-Part 5

We’re in Part 5 of 7 ideas for generating referral business. If you’re just joining us, you may want to start at the beginning.

For a classic marketing idea with a modern twist, read on.

GETTING THE WORD OUT

Door Hangers/Flyers/Direct Mail/Etc.

Distribute throughout your market area to remind all that your company loves referrals! Although asking for referrals, remember that some of these could result in a direct purchase.

All collateral materials of this type should contain either a website URL or scannable QR code linked to a landing page explaining your Referral Program. These pieces are no longer designed just to make the phone ring (although they can and often do exactly that).

A word of caution: Don’t risk losing their attention by cluttering your piece with the information you really want to reveal on your website. Once they’re on your site, you have the opportunity for real engagement, and in the 21st century, engagement is what makes the world go ’round. As the graphic below illustrates, it now takes between seven and 13 touches for a prospect to become a customer:

An opportunity: Once you have driven them to your website, you have an opportunity to ask for an email address (opening up a direct line of communication), offer free reports or special promotions (including info on your Referral Program), direct them to your social media presence (where you have yet another opportunity to engage), and more! Most people think of this as a sales opportunity–and it is. But you should also treat it–and design it–as an opportunity to build referrals, as well.

In tomorrow’s installment (Part 6 of 7), we’ll present eight specific steps to Creating Your Own Branded Referral Program!
